We achieve the disaster protection capability by using a physical standby database in the Oracle Public Cloud. The transaction data is synchronously or asynchronously sent to the cloud and applied. The standby database is run as either a cold, hot or active database. A cold standby database allows the cloud-side licensing and computing costs to be greatly reduced. Here, the standby database is only started to periodically apply the redo log files. A hot standby database is suitable for more demanding availability requirements. In the event of a disaster, it can be activated with a minimum delay – or even automatically if necessary. The standby database is managed using Oracle Data Guard, or with our proven tool TVD-Standby™.
