Customer Story
Reliable IT is indispensable for the smooth operation of Zurich Airport, where over 200,000 aircraft movements are recorded annually on three runways and over 30 million passengers are welcomed or seen off in its buildings. For many years, Flughafen Zürich AG has trusted in the cooperation with Trivadis – Part of Accenture when it comes to Oracle and relies on the competence and experience of its specialists.
Two years ago, it became apparent that some Oracle clusters were approaching their end of life (EOL). Among other things, critical business applications were affected. In addition to the replacement of these aging clusters, a technology change from shared storage to a physical environment with db* STANDBY, the disaster recovery solution from Trivadis, was to be implemented. Trivadis provided a team of Oracle experts to handle the migration and technology change.
As a first step, the project team migrated the existing Windows clusters to Linux "standalone servers". These new standalone servers use a local storage solution to improve the reliability of the single point of failure (shared storage system) and at the same time reduce operating costs. For this purpose, the Trivadis experts selected a local storage solution with db* STANDBY – the cost-effective high-availability solution offers automatic synchronization as well as monitoring and alerting in the event of error situations across several standalone servers.
We were able to count on Trivadis' professional cooperation and support throughout the entire project, from the initial requirements to the effective implementation of the migration.

Due to the migration to the Linux systems, those responsible at Flughafen Zürich AG now have more possibilities to adapt the system according to their needs. The Oracle products in use are once again up to date and maintenance and support from Oracle are thus available again. The conversions enable more stable operation with lower operating costs.
Thanks to db* STANDBY, time-intensive processes such as synchronization or monitoring of the systems are automated, which massively simplifies the work of those responsible at Flughafen Zürich AG. IT staff and ultimately Zurich Airport as a whole also benefit from the best-practice Oracle standard established by Trivadis. It facilitates maintenance work and guarantees specialist support from Trivadis at all times.
Zurich Airport provides numerous direct connections from Switzerland to the world.
