Presentation via multichanneling

Using multi-channeling, all clients have access to shared business logic and data which may come from different physical data sources. Trivadis develops all types of clients on the basis of Java and .NET technology.

By multi-channeling we mean the presentation of shared data on different clients or "sales channels". Nowadays, making a distinction between only thick and thin clients is an oversimplification of the situation. A far wider variety of clients is available:

Client/server

  • Traditional 2-tier application. The business logic and database connection are on the client.

Thin clients

  • Traditional browser-based application. The presentation is prepared on the web server for the browser.

Rich clients

  • The same presentation options as with client/server systems. However, the connection to the business logic and database is located on the application server.

Mobile clients

  • Connecting cell phones, PDAs, pocket PCs etc.

Smart clients

  • The same presentation options as with rich clients. However, the data connection is via XML Web Services and software can then be deployed dynamically at run-time.

XML clients

  • Data is processed in the form of XML files. Frequently used in B2B environments.
  • Integrated clients
  • Presentation in tools such as Microsoft Office

Trivadis develops all types of clients on the basis of Java and .NET technology. We use all the state-of-the-art frameworks which are tested regularly by our consultants in the Trivadis Technology Center.

Developments in the client area involving Ajax, Web 2.0 and mashups attempt to make browser-based applications more flexible and intuitive. Microsoft's counter-strategy uses software and services, which aims to promote smart clients with Windows Presentation Foundation. These contradictory approaches make it particularly important to have a competent development partner who understands the advantages and disadvantages of both worlds.
